How to build Costco Warehouse in Minecraft

A Costco warehouse club: the huge grey box with the red COSTCO sign and blue WHOLESALE bar over a covered entrance, where an employee checks membership cards on the way in and another checks receipts on the way out. Inside are tall orange-and-blue racking aisles stacked with pallets of goods in every colour, the checkout lanes, the membership desk, a wall of fridges, the TV aisle, a sample station and the famous giant teddy bear. The food court sells the $1.50 hot dog under a big sign on the side wall, with red tables and umbrellas on the patio. Round the side is the tire center with a car up on the lift, and across the lot is the gas station with its canopy, pumps and price sign. The parking lot is full of cars, cart corrals and shoppers pushing overloaded carts.

Building tips

1. Lay the ground first: the warehouse floor, the sidewalk, the parking lot and the gas station pad. Paint the parking lines every fourth block so each 3-wide space fits one car.
2. The warehouse is just a grey box 52 × 36 and 11 high. Build the raised sign wall on the front before the roof so you can line up the letters from the ground.
3. COSTCO is written with every pixel doubled (2 × 2 blocks per pixel). Place the red letters one block proud of the wall so they cast a shadow and read from across the lot.
4. Each racking row is two blocks deep: blue uprights every four blocks, orange beams at layers 3, 6 and 9, and goods on top. Change the colour of the goods every bay so the aisles look stocked.
5. Leave holes in the roof for skylights and sea lanterns. The skylights let you peek into the aisles from above, and the warehouse glows at Night.
6. The hot dog on the side sign is pixel art: a red sausage poking out of a tan bun with yellow mustard dots on top.
7. Cars are a 3 × 5 block of coloured concrete with a 3 × 3 cabin on top: glass at each end and a roof block in the middle.
