How to build Wild Waves Water Park in Minecraft

Wild Waves in Federal Way, Washington, the Pacific Northwest's biggest water park, tucked in among towering spruce trees. A huge wave pool runs from a sandy beach into deep blue water, with the wave machine house at the deep end. Behind it a tall slide tower sends four coloured slides (two enclosed tubes, two open half-pipes) spiralling down into a splash pool. There is a lazy river looping round a wooded island, a kids' splash zone with a giant tipping bucket, lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach, and next door the dry park: a wooden roller coaster on a lattice of timber supports, a carousel, a swing ride and a Ferris wheel.

Building tips

1. Lay out the whole footprint first: dig the wave pool, splash pool and lazy river one block down (two at the deep end) before building anything tall.
2. For the beach entry, place the pool floor in bands: blue concrete at the deep end, then cyan and light blue, then light blue mixed with sand, then plain sand. Pour the water last.
3. Build each spiral slide around a helper pole: mark the centre, then step the floor one block down every quarter turn or so. Add the side walls, and for the tubes the roof, once the floor is in.
4. The coaster supports are a grid: fence posts under both edges of the track, and fence rails running along every third layer. Build the track first on temporary dirt pillars, then fill in the lattice underneath.
5. Keep the slide exits at water level so riders splash straight into the pool, and leave the splash pool two blocks deep.
6. Plant the spruces last, in the gaps. Vary the heights between 11 and 19 blocks so the treeline looks natural.
