How to build Ewok Village in Minecraft

A village of Ewoks high in the redwoods of the forest moon of Endor. Five giant trunks with red, ridged bark and flared roots rise more than 50 blocks, and round plank platforms wrap around them at different heights. Steep cone huts thatched with hay sit on the decks. The chief's hall is a round hut built around the biggest trunk, so its thatched roof stops where the tree carries on upwards. Sagging rope bridges link the platforms, log stairs spiral up the main trunk, rope ladders hang to the ground and bundles of logs hang on ropes as traps. Below is a shady floor of moss, ferns and fallen logs, with a fire ring in the clearing. Fire pits and lanterns make it glow at night.

Building tips

  1. Build the trunks first and hollow. Only the outer ring of a redwood trunk is ever seen, so a ring of blocks per layer saves thousands of logs.
  2. Mix red terracotta, brown terracotta and spruce logs in vertical strips for the bark. Keep each column mostly one block type so the bark looks ridged rather than speckled.
  3. Flare the base by adding one wider ring of bark for every layer you go down over the last four layers.
  4. Lay each platform as a ring around the trunk, then add log beams and diagonal struts under it. Leave gaps in the fence rail where bridges and ladders arrive.
  5. Ewok roofs are steep: step the hay cone in by one block every two layers, not every layer, and finish with a fence post spike.
  6. Sag the rope bridges a block or two in the middle using top and bottom slabs, with fence rails and lantern posts.
  7. Log traps are three-by-three bundles of logs hanging from a deck on fence-post ropes. Put them over the paths for the full Endor look.
  8. Cover the forest floor with a mix of moss and grass, then scatter single leaf blocks and saplings as ferns. Lay fallen logs on their sides with moss growing on top.
