How to build Giant Battle Mech in Minecraft

An 80-block battle mech standing guard in its hangar yard, planted in a wide heroic stance with its sword driven into the concrete. White, blue and red armour plates with yellow hazard stripes, a glowing reactor core in the chest, an open cockpit hatch with the pilot in the seat, a glowing visor and V-fin crest, missile pods on both shoulders, a huge arm cannon, hydraulic pistons at every joint and a jet pack with burning thrusters. Behind it a yellow service gantry with three walkways and an overhead crane, a tower crane lifting a crate, floodlights and a support truck carrying a spare missile. A radar dish tops the left shoulder and the thrusters glow with layered flame.

Open the interactive 3D plan above to build it one layer at a time: every layer has a numbered top-down plan, a block list and full-screen step-by-step instructions you can tick off as you go. You can also download it for Litematica, WorldEdit or Minecraft Bedrock, or view it in your room in AR.

Building tips

1. Start with the yard and the yellow bay markings, then the two feet. Every leg layer splays one block further out every seven blocks down, so the stance reads as wide and stable from far away.
2. Build the frame of each limb in gray concrete first, then clad it with white plates one block out. The gap between the gray core and the armour is what makes it look mechanical rather than like a statue.
3. Pistons are just two-tone columns: gray concrete for the cylinder and iron blocks for the rod. Put them behind the knees, in front of the elbows and beside the hips.
4. The arm cannon is a round barrel laid along z. Build each ring as a circle on a vertical wall, then step forward one block. The cooling rings of sea lanterns every four blocks make it glow at night.
5. Leave the cockpit for last: carve the hole, line it with gray, then add the seat, consoles and pilot before you place the raised hatch above it.
6. Switch the lighting to Night: the reactor, visor, thrusters, cannon rings and floodlights are all light sources, so light the gantry well and the mech glows against the dark.
