How to build Tropical Overwater Villa in Minecraft

A Maldives-style luxury resort. A thatched main villa with an infinity pool sits on a white-sand island ringed with palm trees, and a long curved boardwalk sweeps out over a turquoise lagoon to four overwater bungalows on stilts. Each one has a hay-thatched roof, a glass floor panel, a private plunge pool and a sun deck with loungers. The lagoon shades from pale turquoise shallows to deep blue, with a coral reef, a moored speedboat and a round thatched sunset bar at the end of the west pier.

Building tips

  1. Lay the lagoon floor first in rings around the island: sand in the shallows, then light blue and cyan, then deep blue. The glass and water on top pick up those colours.
  2. Light-blue stained glass over sand looks like ankle-deep tropical water. Switch to real water once the floor turns blue.
  3. Blend the bands: scatter a few blocks of each colour into the next ring so the gradient has no hard lines.
  4. Hay bales make a convincing thatch. Finish each roof's bottom edge with a ring of acacia stairs for the eaves.
  5. Mark the boardwalk curve with a compass-style circle on the water before placing planks, then hang the bungalows off it on short spurs.
  6. Beds make perfect sun loungers, and a fence post with a wool disc on top is a beach umbrella.
