How to build Rustic Farmstead in Minecraft

A complete small farm laid out along a fenced dirt lane. The white farmhouse has green shutters, a stone chimney and a porch that wraps round two sides, with rocking chairs, a swing and lanterns. Behind it a weathered red barn stands with its doors open on a hay-filled loft, and a multi-bladed windpump turns its wheel to the south over a round stock tank. A little red chicken coop on stilts has a ramp and a fenced run full of hens. Out front are striped crop fields of wheat, carrots, potatoes and tall corn split by an irrigation ditch and watched by a scarecrow, a pumpkin patch beside the lane and an apple orchard to the west.

Building tips

1. Lay out the lane and the fields first. Once the ground plan is right, the buildings fall into place around the yard.
2. For crop rows, put carpet on dirt: yellow for ripe wheat, lime and green for carrots and potatoes. Leave a bare dirt furrow between rows and run a one-block water ditch through the middle.
3. Corn is two blocks of jungle leaves with a dandelion on top for the tassel. Plant it in rows at the back of the field so it does not hide the smaller crops.
4. Build the porch floor one block up on the foundation, then frame it with birch posts, a fence railing and a flat slab roof. Wrap it round the corner so the house looks welcoming from the lane.
5. The windpump wheel is a circle of blocks standing upright, alternating two colours so it reads as blades. Give it a tail vane pointing back and a thin lattice tower of fences.
6. Pumpkins are orange concrete here. Scatter them unevenly on dirt with green carpet vines, a few touching in pairs.
