How to build Craftsman Bungalow in Minecraft

A 1920s American Craftsman bungalow, the cosy house of a thousand tree-lined streets. Sage-green siding sits on a fieldstone footing under a low, wide slab roof whose deep eaves rest on exposed rafter tails, with a shingled shed dormer looking out over the street. The wide front porch has its own shingled gable on chunky tapered columns standing on fieldstone piers, and a fieldstone chimney climbs the side. Inside there is a living room with a stone fireplace between built-in bookcases, an open dining room, a kitchen with a stone peninsula, and two bedrooms. Outside: a two-strip driveway to a matching garage, a white picket fence with a mailbox, flower beds, a vegetable garden and lanterns that make it glow at night.

Building tips

1. The low pitch is the whole look. Build the roof from slabs, not stairs: a bottom slab, then a top slab one block in, then a bottom slab one block higher, and repeat. It rises half a block per block, far flatter than a stair roof.
2. Let the eaves hang two blocks past the walls and put a top slab under the edge every second block. Those little rafter tails throw a striped shadow along the wall and say "Craftsman" instantly.
3. Taper the porch columns: a 3×3 fieldstone pier, then a single post with a stair on each side facing in at its foot, then plain post up to the beam. Mix cobblestone, andesite and mossy cobblestone so the stone looks hand-laid.
4. Use two wall materials: siding (green terracotta) on the walls and shingles (spruce planks) in the gables and dormer. Cream birch trim on the corners, window heads and sills ties it together.
5. Stick the window sills and heads out one block from the wall (upside-down stairs below, top slabs above). It costs a few blocks and gives every window real depth.
6. The driveway is two strips of concrete with grass between, the "Hollywood driveway" of the period. Line the walk with flowers and light the porch, gate posts and garage with lanterns.
