How to build Sky Island Mansion in Minecraft

A luxury palace on an island floating high above the clouds. The island hangs on a jagged inverted cone of dirt and ore-speckled stone, trailing roots and vines, while waterfalls pour off its rim and fade into mist. A white-and-gold mansion with a prismarine-domed tower looks out over an infinity-edge pool, a glass-domed garden and a cantilevered landing pad. Rope bridges lead to three floating satellite islets with a gazebo, an observatory and a spring garden, and a hot-air balloon floats alongside the whole thing.

Building tips

  1. Build the island top first (one layer of grass), then work downward in rings. Each layer of the underside is a little smaller and more ragged than the one above it.
  2. You only need the outer shell of the cone. Fill the inside with anything cheap, or leave it hollow to save thousands of blocks.
  3. Sprinkle ores by eye: coal and iron near the top, gold, redstone and diamond deeper down, and a few spikes of deepslate hanging lowest.
  4. Waterfalls in survival: place a source block at the rim and let it flow. In creative, stack the water and finish with glass for a misty fade.
  5. Rope bridges look best with a sag: drop the deck one block every few blocks toward the middle, then climb back up.
  6. Start the bridges from tall posts with lanterns so they read clearly from far away.
