How to build Wizard's Hut in Minecraft

A crooked little wizard's cottage. A round spruce-and-cobblestone ground floor carries an upper storey that leans out to one side, topped by a tall purple witch-hat roof that bends over at the tip with a lantern dangling from it. Round windows, a stone chimney, a bubbling cauldron by the door and glowing mushrooms in the garden make it feel magical, and inside there is a potion corner full of coloured bottles.

Building tips

  1. Gather first: about 2 stacks of spruce planks, a stack of cobblestone, 4 dark oak logs and roughly 3 stacks of purple concrete or wool for the roof. Purple dye comes from mixing red and blue dye (poppy + cornflower or lapis).
  2. Build the round walls one layer at a time from the plan: each ring is 7 blocks across. The upper storey is the same ring shifted one block east, which is what makes the hut look crooked.
  3. The hat is a stack of shrinking circles. Every couple of layers, move the circle one block east or north so the point bends over. Build it from the inside on scaffolding or dirt pillars and take them down afterwards.
  4. The round windows are a plus shape of glass: three panes tall in the middle and one either side. They look round from a distance and are the easiest round window there is.
  5. The cauldron is a stand-in block topped with green carpet for bubbling brew. In survival use a real cauldron (7 iron ingots) and fill it with a water bucket.
  6. Glowing mushrooms double as your lighting: the sea lanterns and glowstone in the caps stop mobs spawning in the garden. Keep a torch or lantern inside and under the brim too.
